The Infinite Remix: How to Profit from Plagiarism | Elacity
Current IP law creates a "Solo Culture" where creators fight to stop sharing. Elacity introduces the Genealogical Asset. By tracking lineage in WASM capsules, we turn "plagiarism" into profit.
The End of Copyright: How to Profit from Plagiarism
The modern definition of "Copyright" is broken. It was written for a world of printing presses and physical vinyl, where copying was difficult and slow. Today, copying is instant. The result is an Innovation Deadlock.
The entire legal machinery of Intellectual Property (IP) is Defensive. It is designed to build a wall around an idea. If a fan remixes a song, a developer forks a codebase, or a writer expands on a universe, the original creator sends a "Cease and Desist."
This creates a Solo Culture. Every creator is an island, terrified of theft, spending more money on lawyers than on R&D. Culture stagnates because it is frozen in ice. We are stuck watching the 10th reboot of a 1980s franchise because new ideas are too risky to touch. We are fighting a losing war against the internet's natural state: Replication.
The Paradigm Shift: From Protectionism to Propagation
Biology teaches us a different lesson. The most successful organisms, whether genes or memes, are not the ones that build walls. They are the ones that replicate the fastest. In the digital age, if your work isn't being copied, it's dying.
We need to flip the incentive structure upside down. We must move from Protectionism (stopping usage) to Propagation (encouraging usage). You should want people to steal your work—IF you get paid for it. Imagine a world where "plagiarism" wasn't a crime, but a business model. A world where every remix, every fork, and every copy increased the wealth of the original creator.
The Elacity Solution: The Genealogical Asset
At Elacity, we have solved the technical barrier to this vision. We introduce the Genealogical Asset. Current files (MP3s, PDFs) are dumb; they forget where they came from. Elacity Capsules are smart; they remember their parents.
Because our assets are programmable WASM (WebAssembly) Binaries, they can track their own lineage on the blockchain.
1. The Fork
Let's say you mint a "Beat Capsule"—a drum loop you created. Another user downloads it. Instead of just listening to it, they "Fork" it. They add a bassline, chop the rhythm, and create a new song. In the old world, this is copyright infringement. In the Elacity world, this is Evolution.
2. The Split
When the new user mints their "Song Capsule," the smart contract reads the DNA of the binary. It recognizes your "Beat Capsule" as the Parent Code. The contract automatically writes a rule: 20% of all future revenue from this Song goes to the original Beat creator.
3. The Tree of Wealth
This happens recursively.
- Creator A makes the Beat.
- Creator B makes the Song (using the Beat).
- Creator C makes a Music Video (using the Song).
When the Music Video makes money, Creator C gets paid, Creator B gets paid, and Creator A gets paid. The value flows up the tree, instantly and transparently.
Social Result: Multiplayer Creativity
This shifts the psychology of the internet from "Don't Touch My Stuff" to "Please Build On My Stuff." We unlock Multiplayer Creativity.
- Musicians will release stems, not just finished tracks, hoping to be sampled.
- Writers will open-source their characters, hoping for fan-fiction writers to turn them into bestsellers.
- Coders will encourage forking, knowing that the most used library generates the highest yield.
The fear of theft vanishes. It is replaced by the joy of legacy.
The Manifesto Hook
The walls are coming down. The old laws of copyright are obsolete relics of a physical age. The future belongs to the open. The future belongs to the remix. Don't protect your IP. Propagate it. Start the Infinite Remix on Elacity.
